Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I grew up in Carpinteria, California, 15miles south of Santa Barbara and 85 miles north of Los Angeles. Where could be a better place to grow up than in a small beach town on the coast of Southern California? With a high school graduating class of 100 people, everybody knew everybody. My best memory of my childhood was riding my bike across town to the beach with my surf board under my arm. I spent every day of my summer vacations at the beach with friends. People often ask me why I left, and I honestly don't have a good answer.
Q: What is the best place you have ever visited?
A: Before having kids, my wife and I enjoyed international travel, and hope to do more soon when the kids get a little older. We've been to some pretty fun places, but my favorite trip was to Peru to hike up Machu Picchu or referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas". The Inca Indians are very friendly and enjoy tourists to share their heritage and sell their handmade alpaca goods. And no, I couldn't bring myself to try guinea pig.
Q: Do you play a sport?
A: Since graduating college I've been playing on a recreational volleyball team that plays at Washington Park during the Spring-Summer months. My long time passion has been mountain biking. I tried to pride myself during college that I would ride every mountain bike trail around the Boulder area. I covered a lot of miles, but as you may be aware there are A LOT of trails in the area. Nowadays, I find that I run to stay in shape.
Q: Do you have an interesting hobby?
A: One of my hobbies is bagging 14ers. A 14er is a mountain that is higher than 14,000ft, and there are 56 such recognized mountains locally here in Colorado. I've successfully completed 12 of them, with only one unsuccessful summit due to weather. I'm not sure that I will complete all the summits as I'm not much of a technical climber - and the Class 4 and 5 routes kind of scare me…plus Marley wouldn't be able to come.
Q: What do you do on the weekends?
A: I enjoy spending time on the weekends with my family, my wife Holly, 2-1/2 year old son Griffin, and 1year old daughter Madeline. Recently, Griffin has been in an indoor soccer class, just got his first two-wheel bike (with training wheels), and overall just loves being outdoors. Madeline has been walking for the last 2-3 months and loves saying Dada. We also have a 90 pound chocolate lab, named Marley, that won't leave you alone in the mornings until you take him for a walk. |
