The AE Design Sustainability Committee
AE Design’s sustainability committee started with a few passionate designers and grew with leadership support. We researched, learned from other firms, and identified ways to improve our own processes. Today, the committee shapes our culture. Sustainability is a core value, and we’re investing in our designers to make an even bigger impact. We hope our journey inspires others to start conversations, engage their teams, and bring sustainability into their work.

Advocacy in Action
-

Lighting Advocacy Letter
AE Design has joined mindful Materials Lighting Advocacy Letter to push for real sustainability in lighting. Inspired by the AIA Materials Pledge, the initiative brings designers and manufacturers together to turn shared goals into meaningful action.
Our team focus on Human Health, Climate Health, Ecosystem Health, Social Health and Equity, and the Circular Economy. We’re committed to updating our specifications, sharing what we learn, and prioritizing products that are open about their materials and environmental impact. -

MEP 2040 Commitment
AE Design proudly supports MEP 2040, an initiative committed to eliminating embodied carbon in building systems by 2040. While we are not an MEP firm, we share the mission of advancing sustainable practices across the building industry.
By aligning with MEP 2040, we help promote awareness and advocate for strategies that reduce carbon impact throughout the lifecycle of buildings. Our support reflects our broader commitment to sustainability and driving meaningful change in the built environment. -

Equity
Equity sits at the core of true sustainability. It is not only an environmental or economic priority, but also a commitment to creating healthier and more resilient communities for everyone.
Sustainable design has the power to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion by ensuring that people of all backgrounds and abilities have access to safe, efficient, and welcoming spaces. When thoughtfully applied, it can help reduce disparities in the built environment, improve quality of life, and create opportunities for meaningful social connection.

“Specifiers have 240x the purchasing power of individual consumers. When we choose lower-carbon materials, it makes a huge difference.”
Hear From the Team!
— Andi McIntosh, LC, Design IALD, Assoc. IES, LEED GA, Senior Lighting Designer at AE Design
“Construction emissions are extremely high, and we have to do our part to reduce our impact on the environment and our communities. Even small changes can make a big difference, and I see that every day in my work as a designer at AE.”
— Mike Rogers, LEED AP, Senior Project Designer at AE Design
“Most of our work is done with the intent to be efficient and meet all code requirements. …We take some of our projects to the next level with climate-conscious designs and specify climate-responsible products for those projects.”
— Max Lovegren, Lighting Designer at AE Design
“I like finding things made with recycled materials or that are manufactured effectively. Companies know to make operations sustainable, because it's what users see, but often still manufacture items in terribly harmful ways. So, it's awesome to get to try and remedy some of that.”
