CRG OFFICE
Boulder, Colorado

The client, a modern global healthcare investment firm, wanted to reflect their differentiators of having the right people, knowing the right people, and being the proactive to move on many “firsts” in healthcare-related credit technologies. These goals translated into design language of sleek, modern, transparent, and monochromatic. The architect led with a design-first mind-set learned from working as an Associate with Zaha Hadid Architects – there were no compromises, only solutions to get to the truly integrated design to the entire office. Every sensor, exit sign, lighting fixture, and HVAC slot was placed with intention working within the larger design system.

Like the rest of the office, the ceiling is sleek, modern, and monochromatic. This meant that HVAC wasn’t merely tossed up and out sight, but carefully coordinated with strategically placed vents along with the sculptural linears according to the overall design goals and language. When entering the space, your eye moves up and stays there not because of often ignored, messy overhead items, but because everything is so uniquely clean and thought out. The lighting is a custom, sculptural art fixture which follows the lines of the walls and works in tandem with the custom HVAC pieces. Behind the scenes, slot diffusers were placed between downlights, creating a single, high-end line effect with a refined solution.

With the office location in Boulder, aggressive energy savings weren’t an option but an expectation. The design is 50% better than the already stringent Boulder code. This number was possible due in part to the daylighting strategy, which was woven into the design. Sunshine penetrates the entire space taking advantage of the large windows and interior glass, and unobtrusive recessed lighting helps make that goal happen. LED fixtures, and careful design and planning went a long way in making this incredible energy savings happen.
